How I make boxes

I custom make heirloom boxes to order in wood, usually in Oak, Cherry and Black walnut, but Paduke, Purple Heart, Maple and other woods are also used. A box has six sides that can be made with as little as six pieces of wood. I prefer to make boxes more involved, contemporary with straight lines and inlays of different wood types. Gluing and clamping is my mainstay of operation. A good box for me has over 100 separate pieces of wood. My process takes longer and is very specialized. This box for example is made with of Cherry, and Black Walnut woods, and along with an original designed 18 piece continuous wooden hinge, this Keepsake box is constructed with over 120 pieces of wood.
